Potable

Tap water in your French commune: the official test results, with no tracker.
Version: 1.0.1
Added: 06-11-2026
Updated: 06-11-2026
Potable shows the results of the official sanitary control of tap water in France: the sanitary conclusion of the latest sample taken on the network that serves your commune, the detail of every analysed parameter, and how they change over time.

These results are established by the regional health agencies (ARS) and published by the French Ministry of Health through Hub'Eau. Potable shows them as published: it adds no score, no rating and no opinion of its own.

Features

• Opens on the search, with the communes you opened recently. Find your commune offline, by name or postal code: the list of communes is built into the app. “Near me” is optional: the location permission is only requested when you tap the button.
• The right distribution unit: when a commune is served by several, Potable lists them with their district names, explains in one sentence what a distribution unit is, and remembers your choice.
• The latest sample: the sanitary conclusion as published by the ARS, the sampling date, the distributor and the responsible authority, bacteriological and physico-chemical compliance with quality limits and quality references kept apart, and a few key parameters explained in one sentence: hardness, nitrates, pH, free chlorine.
• Every analysed parameter, grouped by family, with its value, its unit and the quality limit when one is published, and a search in the list.
• History: the curve of a parameter over 1, 3, 5 or 10 years, with the regulatory limit drawn when there is one, and the timeline of the sanitary conclusions of past samples.
• Several followed communes in “My communes”, sorted by name and searchable, readable offline with the date of their data.
• Optional alerts, off by default: a check every week (or every two or four weeks) that tells you about each new analysis, or only about unfavourable conclusions.
• In English and French. The official labels (parameters, units, conclusions) stay in French in both languages: they are data, not interface.
• Light, dark or system theme.

What Potable does not do

• No score, no rating, no ranking: Potable shows the conclusions of the ARS, in their own words.
• No health advice: the app does not tell you whether you can drink your water. If in doubt, the sheet of each commune names its regional health agency (ARS) and its water distributor.
• Your own tap is not covered: samples are taken on the distribution unit, so the state of the private pipes in your building is not included.
• The data are updated once a month: a result shown may be several weeks old.

Privacy

• A single server is contacted: hubeau.eaufrance.fr, over HTTPS only. Requests contain the codes of the commune and distribution unit you look up, and no identifier. The website of an ARS opens in your browser.
• Your position is never sent or stored: if you use “Near me”, it is used once, on the phone, to find the nearest commune, then discarded.
• No telemetry, no crash reports, no advertising, no account. Your followed communes stay on your phone.
